Val di Fassa

Ladin-speaking Dolomite valley linking ski villages, via ferrata routes, and the Marmolada glacier.

Val di Fassa is a narrow valley in the heart of the Dolomites, running from the Marmolada glacier southeast to where it meets Val di Fiemme. It is one of the Ladin-speaking valleys of Trentino — the local language, culture, and cuisine have more in common with the other Ladin valleys (Val Gardena, Val Badia) than with the Italian-speaking towns lower down.

In winter the valley is a major ski destination, connected to the Dolomiti Superski circuit with access to hundreds of kilometres of piste. In summer it transforms into hiking and climbing country, with some of the most dramatic via ferrata routes in the Alps and easy access to the Catinaccio (Rosengarten) and Sella groups. The valley's main villages are Canazei at the upper end, Campitello, and Moena at the lower end.
