Bicycle: The standard way to get around Forte dei Marmi. The town is flat, compact, and threaded with cycle paths through the pine forest. Bike hire shops are everywhere in summer, typically charging €5–10 per day for a basic town bike. Most accommodation has bikes available or can arrange hire.
On foot: The central area — Fortino, market square, main restaurants, beach — is entirely walkable. The beach clubs are at most 15 minutes' walk from the centre.
Taxi: Available from the central taxi rank on Piazza Garibaldi or by phone. Essential for reaching the train station or the autostrada, particularly with luggage. In summer, pre-book for airport transfers.
Local bus: The Vaibus service connects Forte dei Marmi to the surrounding Versilia towns — Pietrasanta, Viareggio, Massa — several times per day. Useful for day trips if you are without a car.
Car: A car is needed for day trips to Carrara, the Cinque Terre, or the Lunigiana. Within the town itself, driving is more trouble than it is worth in high summer, when parking is almost impossible.
