The free public beach at the northern end of Forte dei Marmi's waterfront is the only section of the coast not occupied by a private bagno. It is narrower and has no facilities — no sunloungers, no showers, no beach bar — but it is free, it faces the same sea and the same Alps, and in the early morning or late afternoon it is genuinely tranquil. Arrive early if you want shade from the pines at the back of the beach; by midday in summer it is busy and there is no shade to be had.
