Viareggio is a fishing port and the seafood here is seriously good. The canal district — the streets behind the main promenade, around the Darsena — has the best concentration of unpretentious restaurants that locals actually use. Avoid the tourist-facing places directly on the beach promenade and head a block or two inland.
