Torre del Lago Puccini & Villa Puccini

Torre del Lago, a village 5 km south of Viareggio on the edge of Lake Massaciuccoli, is where Giacomo Puccini lived and worked for most of his creative life — he called it la mia piccola delizia ("my little delight"). Villa Puccini, his lakeside home, is now a museum containing the composer's original furnishings, personal effects, and the room where he composed Tosca, Madama Butterfly, and much of La Bohème. Puccini and his wife are buried in the villa chapel. The village hosts the Puccini Festival every July and August, with open-air opera performances in the lakeside theatre. Easily reached by bike from Viareggio along the coastal cycle path.
