Mestre itself is not on the coast, but several good beaches are within easy reach by train or bus. Lido di Jesolo, about 20 minutes northeast by car, has a long stretch of sandy beach with both public and private sections. The private beaches are cleaner and have lifeguards. Lido di Venezia, reachable by vaporetto from Venice, is a quieter 12-kilometre strip of golden sand between the Adriatic and the lagoon.
