The historic centre is compact and best covered on foot. Via Mazzini, Via Cappello, and several other central streets are pedestrianised. The Arena, Piazza Erbe, and Sant'Anastasia are all within a 10-minute walk of each other.
City buses (ATV) are orange. Tickets must be bought before boarding from tobacconists (tabaccherie) or newsagents; validate on board. A 24-hour tourist pass is available.
The centre is closed to unauthorised vehicles at certain hours. Free parking is available at the football stadium and at Porta Vescovo; there are pay car parks closer in. Taxis rank at Porta Nuova station and Piazza Bra (tel. 045 532 666 for a booking).
