Day Trips

Verona is exceptionally well placed for day trips. The Valpolicella wine country begins immediately northwest of the city — rolling hills with small Romanesque churches and cellars offering Amarone tastings. The Lessinia plateau to the north is a natural park of limestone uplands, fossil beds, and medieval villages, easily reached by car. Vicenza, 50km east, has the finest concentration of Palladian architecture in the world. Venice, 114km east, is an obvious excursion: Frecciabianca trains do the journey in just over an hour, so a full day is feasible without feeling rushed.
