The Çarshia e Gjatë — the Long Bazaar — is Gjakova's historic commercial heart and one of the best-preserved (and partially reconstructed) Ottoman bazaars in the Balkans. It stretches for nearly a kilometre through the centre of the old town, a succession of small craftsmen's workshops, coffee shops, and family businesses in low stone buildings with wooden frontages.
The bazaar was established in the 16th century and grew into one of the most important trading centres in the region. It was devastated in 1999 and subsequently rebuilt to closely match the original layout. Today it is active again — you will find copperwork, embroidery, and traditional crafts alongside more ordinary commerce. The atmosphere is unhurried and genuinely local. The best time to walk it is mid-morning, when the workshops are open and the coffee shops are filling up.
