An Albanian-protected archaeological monument, the Haxhi Zeka Mill is a historic watermill that used the flow of the Bistrica river to grind grain for the city. The building represents an important layer of Peja's economic history — the mill districts of Balkan towns were as significant to urban life as the mosques and bazaars, and several survive in varying states of preservation across Kosovo.
The Haxhi Zeka Mill is named after the Albanian nationalist leader Haxhi Zeka, who was a prominent figure in the late Ottoman period and was assassinated in 1902 in Peja. The mill has been protected as a heritage site and can be visited; it is located slightly north of the town centre.
