Jashar Pasha's House

Another fine example of the Albanian stone-tower house (kulla), Jashar Pasha's House demonstrates the defensive-domestic architecture that characterised elite households in the Dukagjin region. The thick stone construction, high exterior walls, and carefully controlled sight lines reflect a society where family feuds and tribal conflicts made domestic security a genuine concern alongside comfort.

The interior shows how comfort was achieved within these constraints: carved wooden ceilings in the reception rooms, painted stucco decoration, and careful orientation to maximise light in the inner courtyard while presenting blank walls to the street. Together with Tahir Bey's Palace and the Sheremet Tower, this gives a coherent picture of how Peja's Albanian elite lived during the Ottoman centuries.
