Eating Out

Pristina's restaurant scene has developed significantly since independence, with a growing number of places that go beyond the traditional grilled meat and byrek of the Balkan tradition. The cafe culture dominates — espresso is taken seriously and consumed at all hours — but proper restaurants are easy to find around Mother Teresa Boulevard and in the university district.

Traditional Albanian food features grilled meat (qebapa and shish qebab), pite (flaky pastry filled with cheese, spinach, or meat), and fresh salads. Tavë kosi — slow-baked lamb with yoghurt — is the dish most worth seeking out. International options are increasing, with Turkish, Italian, and pan-Asian restaurants all represented in the centre.
