Archaeological Museum and Clock Tower

Prizren archaeology museum housed in an Ottoman hammam beside the old clock tower

Prizren's Archaeological Museum occupies the former Shemsedin Ahmet Bey hammam, an Ottoman bath complex from the late 15th century. The clock tower attached to the site makes the building one of the more recognisable landmarks on the edge of the old centre, even before you step inside.

The collection is compact, but it helps place Prizren in a longer story than the Ottoman bridges and mosques most visitors come to see. Go for the building as much as the cases: the masonry, domes, and tower give a good sense of how civic architecture layered itself into the city over centuries.
