Beaufort is a village in the Mullerthal region of eastern Luxembourg, an area nicknamed "Little Switzerland" for its landscape of wooded gorges, sandstone rock formations, and narrow valleys carved by small rivers. It's one of the most touristed corners of the country, and for good reason.
The main attraction is Beaufort Castle — actually two structures side by side: a 12th-century ruined medieval fortress and a 17th-century Renaissance château. Together they make an impressive ensemble, and the Renaissance section is open to visitors. The surrounding Müllerthal Trail passes through here, offering some of the best walking in Luxembourg: narrow paths through boulders and fern-filled ravines, easy enough for families but varied enough to hold interest.
Beaufort is also known for its blackcurrant liqueur (cassis), produced locally and sold throughout the village.
