Perched on cliffs above Gozo's finest beach, Ramla l-Hamra, Calypso's Cave is traditionally identified as the lair of the nymph who detained Odysseus for seven years in Homer's Odyssey. The cave itself is modest and partially collapsed, but the setting — red sand beach below, deep blue sea beyond — is magnificent. The walk down to Ramla Bay passes through terraced fields and makes for a rewarding half-day excursion.
