Gozo rewards slow exploration. The Ggantija Temples near Xagħra are among the oldest freestanding structures in the world, predating the Egyptian pyramids. The walled Citadel above Victoria offers panoramic views across the island. Ta' Pinu Basilica is a major pilgrimage site with an intimate atmosphere, and Calypso's Cave above Ramla Bay connects the island to Homeric legend.
The coast is the other half of the trip: Dwejra and the Inland Sea on the west, the resort bays of Xlendi and Marsalforn, the red-sand beaches of Ramla Bay and San Blas Bay, and the dramatic clefts of Mġarr ix-Xini and the Wied il-Mielaħ Window. The vast dome of the Xewkija Rotunda is visible from almost everywhere on the island.
