Alley of Classics

A leafy walk on the western side of the Stephen the Great Park, lined on both sides by 28 bronze busts of Romanian-language writers — from the medieval chroniclers to 20th-century poets. Begun in 1957 during a brief Khrushchev-era thaw, the alley remains one of the most ambitious literary monuments in Eastern Europe.

The busts are at eye level on stone plinths, each with the writer's name and dates. Mihai Eminescu, Ion Creangă, Vasile Alecsandri, and the more recent Grigore Vieru are the names you'll recognise; the others repay a slow walk with a phone for translation. Free, always open.
