Mihai Eminescu National Theatre

Moldova's flagship Romanian-language drama theatre operates from a tidy 1950s building south of the central park. Founded in 1921 in what was then Romanian Bessarabia, it has gone through occupation, repression, and renaming under Soviet rule but kept a continuous troupe — making it one of the longest-running theatres in the post-Soviet space.

Programming is mostly classical Romanian theatre (Caragiale, Eugène Ionesco's early Romanian-language works) with translated Shakespeare and Chekhov. Performances are in Romanian; surtitling is rare. If you don't speak the language, the better introduction is the opera house. Box office on site; check the website for the monthly schedule.
