Pet Danica Promenade

Seven-kilometre seafront walk linking Igalo, Herceg Novi and Meljine

The Pet Danica is the spine of seaside life in Herceg Novi. A paved walkway hugs the shore for around seven kilometres, passing tiny pebble beaches, swimming platforms, restaurants, and the occasional concrete bathing terrace from the Yugoslav era. The full length goes from Igalo in the west to Meljine in the east.

You don't need to walk it all. The most pleasant stretch is the kilometre or so directly below the old town, where the path narrows between the sea and the cliffs. There are ladders down to the water every couple of hundred metres and decent espresso at any of the cafés you pass.

A story
The promenade is named for five Danica sisters who died young and whose father, a local sea captain, financed a stretch of the path in their memory. It was extended in stages through the 20th century and now runs almost without interruption from the Croatian border to the entrance of the inner bay.
