Pekara AS is Podgorica's most famous bakery and something of a local institution. It opens early and serves fresh burek — flaky pastry stuffed with cheese, meat, or spinach — along with bread, pastries, and strong coffee. Burek from AS is the standard Podgorica breakfast and a reliable cheap meal at any hour.
The bakery has become a sort of orientation point in the city centre; locals give directions using it as a landmark. The Natural History Museum is directly behind it. Nothing fancy, no seating in the traditional sense, but utterly authentic and very good value.
