Almere-Buiten is the suburban-feeling eastern district, developed in the 1980s and 90s as a more conventional residential area of single-family houses and low-rise apartment blocks. There is less architecture for tourists here, but the district is home to De Groene Kathedraal, the Yanmar Stadion of Almere City FC, the Oostvaarders College, and the largest of the city's shopping centres, Doemere.
For visitors the main reason to come out is the Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve, which begins on the district's northern edge.
