The middle ring of the three great canals — wider than Prinsengracht, quieter than Herengracht, and generally regarded as the most photogenic of the three. The stretch between Leidsestraat and Brouwersgracht is particularly well-preserved, with double rows of elm trees and a sequence of merchant houses in near-perfect condition.
