The main green lung of Amsterdam, designed in English Landscape style in the late 19th century. In summer it fills up with sunbathers, skaters, picnickers and live performances. There is a Picasso sculpture, a Rietveld-designed pavilion (the Blauwe Theehuis, now a cafe), and enough open space to feel genuinely outside the city for a couple of hours.
