Chassé Theater

The Chassé Theater is Breda's main performing arts venue, built in 1995 on the site of an old army barracks. The design by Herman Hertzberger is bold and recognisable — a cluster of interlocking volumes in brick and glass that makes it look more like a city block than a single building. It is named after the French general who had the old barracks built in the early 19th century.

Inside there are three halls of different sizes hosting theatre, dance, opera, and big touring productions from across the Netherlands. The bar and foyer are open before performances and are sometimes used independently for events. If you are in Breda for more than a night, check what is on — the programme tends toward Dutch-language theatre and international touring shows.
