Boniface Museum (Museum Dokkum)

Small local history museum covering Dokkum's maritime and religious heritage.

The Museum Dokkum (which incorporates the Boniface Museum) is the town's main heritage institution, occupying a historic building in the centre. The collection covers two main themes: the story of St Boniface and his martyrdom at Dokkum, and the town's history as a Frisian naval base and trading port.

The Boniface section covers the missionary's career, the events leading to his death in 754, and the subsequent cult that developed around the site. Reproductions of medieval manuscripts, maps, and artefacts from the early medieval period support the narrative.

The maritime section deals with the Frisian Admiralty period and the town's trading connections. Scale models of ships, nautical instruments, and documents from the admiralty period give context to the Admiraliteitshuis exterior visible from the canal.

The museum is modest in scale — a morning or afternoon, not a full day — but provides useful context for a walk through the town.
