Getting Around

In the old village, there are no cars: the main ways to get around are boat, bike, and walking. Whisper boats (small electric punts) and canoes can be hired from rental companies near the village entrance. Bikes are widely available for rent and are ideal for exploring the wider countryside and the national park. The village also has a network of narrow footpaths along the canal banks. By public transport, take a train to Steenwijk and then bus 70 to Giethoorn (the journey from Amsterdam takes about two hours in total). By car, take the A28 from Zwolle and park at one of the designated car parks on the edge of the village.
