Vleeshal

The Vleeshal is the ornate former meat hall on Haarlem's Grote Markt, built in Dutch Renaissance style for the city's butchers in the early 17th century. Its stepped gables and rich brick-and-stone facade make it one of the square's most distinctive buildings.

It now forms part of the Frans Hals Museum and is usually used for contemporary exhibitions. Even if you do not go inside, pause here while crossing the market square; the building says a lot about Haarlem's old wealth and civic pride.
