Crane Hotel Faralda

A spectacular conversion: the working crane that once loaded coal at Harlingen's industrial harbour turned into a three-suite boutique hotel, fully rotatable, with a hot tub on top and a bungee-jump platform. Not cheap and almost permanently booked, but worth a look from the quayside even if you are not staying. The crane lifts and spins on demand for guests; you can sometimes see it move at sunset.

A story
The crane is a converted 1960s harbour crane — fully gyrating, with three suites stacked vertically inside the cabin and a jacuzzi on the roof. Guests can lock the crane and rotate it 360 degrees, and there is a bungee jump from the top deck for the brave. It is one of two such crane hotels on the Dutch coast — the original is at Amsterdam — and the only one able to spin.
