Set in an eighteenth-century palace on the Grote Kerkstraat that was once a royal residence, the Princessehof is one of Europe's most important ceramics museums. The collection spans 4,000 years and ranges from prehistoric pottery to Chinese export wares, Persian Iznik tiles, Delftware, and contemporary studio ceramics. The Asian collection — Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese — is particularly rich.
The building itself is part of the appeal: a sequence of period rooms with eighteenth-century stucco ceilings, gilded panelling, and a courtyard garden. Allow at least two hours. A combined ticket with the Fries Museum is the easiest way to do both in one day.
