The windmills of Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage site 20 kilometres southeast, are the obvious day trip. Delft and The Hague are both under 30 minutes by train. For something different, take the Waterbus ferry down the Maas to Dordrecht, the oldest city in Holland.
