De Engel — 'the angel' — is a long-established corner brasserie on the Nieuwe Binnenweg with a Mediterranean-leaning menu, a sunny street terrace, and one of the best lunch deals in this part of town. Reliable rather than thrilling, but the room is good and the kitchen does fish, pasta and a strong steak frites with confidence. Popular for weekend brunch.
