Eetcafe De Posthoorn

A traditional Dutch eetcafe near the Binnenhof, doing the sort of honest Dutch food that has become harder to find — stamppot (mashed potato with vegetables), hutspot, thick soups, and good bread, alongside local beers on tap. The space is dark-wood-and-tiled, the kind of interior that has been unchanged for fifty years. Good value, particularly for lunch before or after the Mauritshuis.

The eetcafe occupies a strategic position near the government quarter and fills up at midday with civil servants and the occasional diplomat. In the evening it quietens down. A decent place to eat without theatre or fuss.
