The Hague's main shopping area is the pedestrian zone around Spuistraat and the Grote Marktstraat — a standard Dutch high street with the usual chains. More interesting is the antique quarter around Denneweg and the Noordeinde, where a string of antique dealers and small galleries occupies ground-floor spaces in 19th-century townhouses. The Haagse Markt on Tuesdays and Saturdays is one of the largest outdoor markets in the Netherlands, with a huge range of fresh produce, fabrics, and household goods.
For books, Donner at the Spui has a good Dutch and international selection. The Passage, a 19th-century covered arcade connecting Buitenhof with the Hofweg, is The Hague's only historic shopping gallery and worth a look for the architecture as much as the shops.
