Heuvelse Kerk (Sint-Jozefkerk)

Neo-Gothic spire anchoring Tilburg's central square

The Sint-Jozefkerk — known locally as the Heuvelse kerk — rises above the Heuvel pedestrian square and gives Tilburg's city centre its skyline. Built in the 1870s to a neo-Gothic design, the tower is the dominant feature of the square and a useful navigation point when you are trying to get your bearings in the city.

The interior is high and cool, with good stained glass and the expected Gothic stone detailing. It is regularly open during the day. On Sundays the surrounding Heuvel fills up from the bars and the church and the combination of them is somehow quintessentially Dutch Catholic North Brabant. The building was heavily restored in the early 2000s and is in good condition.
