O Mundo

The restaurant inside Hotel de Wereld — history with your dinner

O Mundo is the restaurant housed inside Hotel de Wereld, the hotel where Germany signed the Dutch surrender in 1945. The name — Portuguese for "The World" — mirrors the hotel's name. The menu focuses on international dishes with Dutch seasonal ingredients, reflecting the cosmopolitan character of the university town around it.

Eating here is an atmospheric experience: the dining room is the actual room where the 1945 signing took place, and the decor acknowledges this without being heavy-handed about it. The food and service are a step up from the student-oriented places elsewhere in town. Reservations are advisable on Liberation Day (5 May) and summer weekends when the hotel fills up.
