Nordnes — The Peninsular Neighbourhood

Nordnes is the finger of land that separates the Vågen harbour from Puddefjorden. It has Bergen's most pleasant residential streets: wooden houses painted in white, yellow, and ochre, small squares with benches, and a park at the western tip with views back over the city and fjord. The neighbourhood is well worth an aimless wander — less visited than Bryggen, quieter, and more representative of how ordinary Bergensians actually live.

At the western tip is Nordnes Sjøbad, the open-air sea bath with diving boards and a pool cut from the fjord. In summer it fills with swimmers; in winter, the truly hardy still come. The small amphitheatre near the park tip hosts occasional outdoor events.
