Ole Bull (1810–1880) was Norway's first international musical superstar — a violinist who drew comparisons to Paganini and sold out concert halls across Europe and America. This bronze statue stands at Torgallmenningen, Bergen's main square, a short walk from the fish market. He was born in Bergen, and the city has never quite got over the pride.
If you want to go deeper into Ole Bull's world, his extraordinary summer villa at Lysøen — a fantastical onion-domed wooden building on an island south of Bergen — is one of the most unusual historic homes in Norway and worth the boat trip out.
