Ulriken Cable Car

At 643 metres, Ulriken is the tallest of the seven mountains surrounding Bergen. A cable car runs from the Ulriksbanen station — reached by shuttle bus from the centre — to the summit plateau, where there is a restaurant with a 360-degree view over the city, the fjords, and on clear days far out over the North Sea.

The summit is also the starting point of the Vidden trail, an all-day hike across the high plateau that connects Ulriken to Fløyen. The trail (roughly 15 km, five to six hours) crosses wild heather moorland and is one of the finest walks near any city in Europe. You can descend the other end on the Fløibanen funicular. Check conditions before setting out — snow lingers well into May and the plateau can be exposed.
