Oddernes Church

A small white-painted stone church on a hill above the Otra river, three kilometres east of the city centre. The current building dates from the early twelfth century, making it one of the oldest standing churches in Norway, although much of what is visible today is the result of nineteenth-century restoration.

In the graveyard outside, a runestone records that it was 'Eyvindr, godson of Olav the Saint, who built this church on his patrimonial land' — a rare survival linking the building directly to its founder. The stone is now under a small protective roof. The church is open during the summer months.
