Hamnøya is the northernmost village in Moskenes municipality, reached first when driving south from Flakstad. A small island connected to the main road by a low bridge, it is less visited than Reine but offers similar rorbu-on-the-water scenery with fewer people competing for viewpoints. The fishing harbour is still working; in winter and early spring, cod racks line the hillsides.
The bridge at Hamnøya is itself much photographed — the low angle over the water with the village and mountains behind is one of the standard Lofoten compositions. At midnight in June the light here is golden and the reflections almost perfectly still.
