Stavanger Museum

The main natural and cultural history museum in Stavanger, established in 1877 and housed in a handsome building near the city park. The collections cover local natural history — Rogaland's geology, wildlife, and landscape — alongside cultural history from the Viking era through the industrial period. Rotating exhibitions supplement the permanent displays.

The museum is part of a larger network of Stavanger museums that includes the Canning Museum, Ledaal manor house, and the Maritime Museum. A combined ticket gives access to the group. The building itself is worth seeing — it is one of the older purpose-built museum structures in western Norway.
