Tønsberg has an outsized reputation for nightlife given its modest size. The waterfront district at Brygga concentrates most of the action: in summer, a string of bars and restaurants line the quayside, and the atmosphere on a warm evening — boats moored alongside, people drinking on terraces, the light lasting late — is genuinely good. The town draws visitors from across Vestfold at weekends in high season.
Beyond the waterfront, the town centre has a handful of cafes and smaller bars that operate year-round. The summer scene is emphatically the best of it; outside the warmer months, Tønsberg is quieter than its reputation suggests.
