Getting Around

The town centre is compact and walkable. Slottsfjellet, Brygga, the cathedral, and the Viking Museum are all within easy reach on foot from the train station — a 10–15 minute walk at most. The hill itself requires a short but reasonably steep climb.

Buses cover the wider municipality, including routes to the islands of Nøtterøy and Tjøme to the south. Cycling is practical in summer; the terrain around the town centre is mostly flat. Taxis are available from the station area.

For day trips to Borre and Horten to the north, or to Åsgårdstrand and Sandefjord to the south, the simplest option is usually the regional train or bus. A car gives more flexibility but parking is rarely an issue at the smaller sites.
