Ekstremsportveko

Ekstremsportveko — Extreme Sports Week — is the event that put Voss on the international adventure circuit. Held every June, the festival hosts competitions in paragliding, base jumping, freestyle skydiving, kayaking, mountain biking, longboarding, and a few other disciplines that did not exist a decade ago.

It is also a music festival, with a main-stage line-up of Norwegian and international acts each evening. The town fills past capacity — book accommodation months ahead — but the atmosphere is the closest Norway gets to a proper summer festival. Spectator access to most events is free, and the parachute landings near the lake are spectacular regardless of whether you know who is competing.

A story
Ekstremsportveko started in 1998 as a small gathering of paragliders and kayakers. It has grown into the world's largest extreme sports festival, with thousands of competitors and a music programme strong enough that some people now come just for the concerts. The whole town turns over to it for a week each June.
