Myrkdalen is a ski area about half an hour northeast of Voss, in a side valley above Vinje. Average snowfall here is among the highest in Norway — more than seven metres in a typical winter — and the season runs from late November to early May, longer than at Voss Resort. The terrain is more open and higher in altitude, with a top lift at 1,055 metres and plenty of off-piste between the marked runs.
The resort is family-oriented, with a hotel, ski school, and a single base village rather than a scattered set of lodges. It is the better choice for serious skiing or guaranteed snow; Voss Resort is the easier day trip if you are staying in town.
