Gdansk's food scene has improved enormously since the early 2000s. The old town has a concentration of restaurants ranging from traditional Polish pierogi houses to contemporary Baltic cuisine making proper use of local fish, smoked meats, and seasonal produce. Amber-coloured Zywiec or Lech beer goes with most of it. The waterfront along the Motlawa has plenty of options but tends toward the tourist end; the streets behind, particularly around Sw Ducha, are better hunting ground.
