Church of the Resurrection

The Church of the Resurrection (Kościół Zmartwychwstania Pańskiego) is a striking example of neo-Romanesque architecture in the Śródmieście district, built in the late 19th century for the Evangelical-Augsburg congregation. The church's sturdy brick tower and rounded apse stand out in a neighbourhood of tenements and modernist blocks. Upper Silesia was historically divided between Catholic and Protestant communities, and this church is a reminder that the region's German Protestant heritage was substantial before the post-war population transfers.

The interior is restrained and dignified, with clean lines and modest ornamentation typical of Protestant church design. It is still an active congregation. Services are held in both Polish and occasionally German, reflecting the congregation's complex history. Worth a brief look if you are exploring the neighbourhood around the market square.
