Silesian Park

Vast urban park with zoo, planetarium, and open-air museum

The Silesian Park in neighbouring Chorzów is one of the largest urban parks in Europe — over 600 hectares of forest, lakes, and open meadows straddling the Katowice–Chorzów boundary. It was created after World War II on wasteland and mining subsidence, and the scale of the achievement only becomes clear when you are inside it. Within the park: a zoo, a planetarium, a stadium, an outdoor sculpture gallery, and the Silesian Open-Air Museum (Górnośląski Park Etnograficzny), which collects wooden farmhouses, mills, and workshops from across the region. Tram number 6 from the Katowice city centre runs directly here.
