Sienkiewicza Street

The long pedestrianised spine of central Kielce — cafés, ice cream, and people watching

Ulica Sienkiewicza is the city's living room — a kilometre of pedestrianised street running west from the cathedral hill down to the railway station, lined with 19th-century townhouses, secondhand bookshops, ice-cream parlours, and a busy chain of cafés and bars. There are no major sights, but it is where the city walks in the evening and where most of the best places to eat and drink sit.

Look for the bronze statue of Miles Davis halfway along, near the corner with Hipoteczna — Kielce hosts the long-running Memorial to Miles Davis jazz festival each November, and the statue is the festival's permanent token. Continue west to find the heart of the café scene around Plac Wolności and the Solidarity monument.
