Szczecin Harbour

One of Poland's major seaports, on the Oder estuary connecting to the Baltic

Szczecin's harbour is one of Poland's largest, an important industrial seaport that has operated continuously since the medieval period. The modern port is active and working — not a heritage attraction — but the riverfront below the Wały Chrobrego embankment has been developed for leisure, with bars and restaurants in converted industrial buildings and a marina for pleasure craft.

The harbour's significance is partly historical: Szczecin (then Stettin) was the main port of Prussia and one of the most important in the Baltic, handling grain, timber, and raw materials from the German interior. The city's wealth in the 19th century came from this trade, and the grand public buildings along the embankment were built with that prosperity. Today the port handles container traffic, bulk cargo, and the ferry connection to Scandinavia via Świnoujście.
